Remote PDI is designed for customers who cannot be physically present at the vehicle location.

It allows our expert to guide you through important visual and functional checks using your smartphone camera and microphone.

Some physical, diagnostic and measurement-based checks require an in-person inspection.

Process

How Your Live Video PDI Works

01

Prep & Connect

Book your slot and make sure the vehicle is washed, accessible, parked in good daylight and located where a stable 4G/5G or Wi-Fi connection is available.

02

Guided Live Inspection

Our expert connects with you through a video call and guides the phone camera step-by-step through the vehicle.

03

Get Your Assessment

Receive an immediate verbal summary of the observations, including visible concerns that should be discussed with the dealer before proceeding with delivery.

Tool-Free Inspection

7 Important Areas We Can Check — Using Just Your Phone

No special equipment is required on the customer side. Our expert guides you through the inspection using your smartphone camera and microphone.

Card 01

Identity & Mileage

  • VIN / Chassis verification
  • Instrument cluster
  • Odometer reading
  • Vehicle identification details
Card 02

Exterior & Paint

Use guided viewing angles and a 45-degree reflection walk to look for visible scratches, dents, panel inconsistencies, paint imperfections and possible signs of repainting.

Note: Visual inspection cannot measure paint thickness remotely.

Card 03

Tyres & Wheels

  • Tyre condition
  • Visible damage
  • Brand/model consistency
  • DOT/manufacturing markings where readable
  • Wheel/rim condition

Note: Not every DOT code can be read clearly through a video call.

Card 04

Lighting & Exterior Functions

  • Headlights, tail lights, indicators
  • Brake lights and reverse lights
  • Fog lights where applicable
  • Mirrors, wipers and washers
Card 05

Engine Bay / EV Drive System

  • ICE: engine bay visual inspection, fluid levels where visible, visible leaks
  • ICE: cold-start observation where practical, unusual sounds
  • EV: motor/drive-system area where visible, warning messages
  • EV: visible charging-port condition and EV-specific exterior checks

Note: A live video call cannot diagnose internal engine or motor problems.

Card 06

Cabin & Electronics

  • AC operation and infotainment
  • Instrument cluster and dashboard warning lights
  • Windows, central locking, horn, switches
  • Interior lights, cameras/sensors where practical
Card 07

Boot / Accessories / Documentation

  • Spare wheel, tool kit, emergency equipment
  • Charging cable / EVSE where applicable
  • Both keys and visible dealer-promised accessories
  • Basic vehicle documentation available for verification

Technique

Why We Ask You to Move the Camera at 45°

Straight-on viewing can hide subtle surface irregularities. Angled reflections can make dents, ripples, scratches and paint inconsistencies easier to notice.

Audio Observation

Listen, Don't Just Look.

ICE Vehicles

During a suitable cold-start observation, you may be guided to capture:

  • Rough idle
  • Unusual ticking
  • Belt noise
  • Abnormal knocking
  • Other unusual sounds

Audio observations through a smartphone can help identify obvious unusual sounds, but they are not a substitute for professional mechanical diagnostics.

Electric Vehicles

EVs do not have an ICE engine. The inspection focuses on relevant warning messages, drive-system behaviour and observable sounds where applicable.

Buying an EV?

Your EV Needs a Different Kind of Visual Check.

Electric vehicles rely on high-voltage batteries, battery management systems, charging hardware, power electronics and software-controlled systems.

  • Charging port condition
  • Charging cable / EVSE where applicable
  • Visible battery/underbody damage
  • Warning messages
  • Instrument cluster alerts
  • Drive-system warnings
  • Regenerative braking settings where visible
  • 12V battery-related warnings where visible
  • Software/electronic functions
  • Cameras and sensors
  • Interior electronics

A Live Video Call PDI cannot perform BMS diagnostics, battery State of Health measurement, cell-level analysis or high-voltage system diagnostics. Those checks require appropriate EV diagnostic equipment and may require an in-person inspection.

Our in-person EV inspection uses EV-capable diagnostic equipment.

FAQ

Live Video PDI Questions

It is a remote, expert-guided visual and functional pre-delivery inspection performed through a live video call, where our expert directs your smartphone camera around the vehicle before you accept delivery.

A guided inspection usually takes approximately 30 minutes, depending on the vehicle, connectivity and access at the location.

No. A smartphone with a working camera and microphone, plus a stable 4G/5G or Wi-Fi connection at the vehicle location, is enough.

We can guide you through angled reflection viewing to look for visible scratches, dents, panel inconsistencies and possible signs of repainting. This is a visual assessment only.

No. Paint-depth measurement requires physical equipment and an in-person inspection.

No. Live Video PDI does not replace an in-person diagnostic scan.

We can guide you through visible EV-related checks, charging-port condition and warning messages. BMS diagnostics, battery State of Health and cell-level analysis require appropriate EV diagnostic equipment and are not performed through a standard video call.

Our expert will communicate the observed concern during the call, explain what it may indicate, and recommend what you should discuss with the dealer or whether a physical PDI is advisable before delivery.

The customer should confirm dealership permission and access before booking. Sure Drives PDI cannot guarantee dealership access.

Yes. A person at the vehicle location should ideally be available to move the phone as guided by the inspector.
